The genre for this week's playlist is Glitch Hop, featuring artists like Kraddy, PANTyRAiD, Glitch Mob & Spoonbill.
A very danceable mix of Progressive & Electro House, featuring deadmau5, Felguk, Justice, Afrojack & others. Also on the list is Madeon, the 16 year old who just got a few tracks published on deamau5's label - mau5strap. If his first few tracks are any indication, Madeon has some serious talent and is just getting started.
In the last post, we looked at how access the COM API from Python and retreive OneNote notebooks as XML data. Now, we're going to use some XML parsing libraries to convert this OneNote data into native Pythonic data structures, which we can then serialize to XML.
All the code from this tutorial is available on this GitHub repo: a9538dfb5b99767896d7
So I wanted to write a COM extension for OneNote the other day, and I was looking through the developer documents on MSDN, and noticed that all the code samples were in C#. Now, I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for dynamically typed languages and I was wondering if I could use Ruby or Python instead.
It turns out that Python actually has a robust Win32COM library that allows you to interface with Office applications, but I couldn’t find any documentation specifically for OneNote. Fortunately, like the other Office apps, most of the OneNote C# interfaces are accessible from the Win32COM api as defined in the documentation, with a few slight changes to account for the different syntax. So I’ve put together a basic tutorial to get started with writing Python extensions for OneNote.

According to Forrester (and presumably, Steve Jobs) post PC devices are "(a) small, pocketable gadgets that (b) run compact operating systems designed for mobility. Applications that run on these devices are (c) easily installed by customers and (d) execute under a trusted applications runtime. Unlike traditional PCs, post-PC devices are (e) not general-purpose computers that run general-purpose operating systems." According to the definition of the post prefix in the English language, one would assume that such devices evolved from PC's and are now functioning as independent machines. That, sadly, is not the case with most devices that fall under this category.
More electronica up this week, here's a 10 track electro house playlist. Delicious, crunchy dance beats from the likes of Justice, Boyz Noize, Felguk and deadmau5.
With all this fuss about WebM & H.264 fighting for their rightful place as the web video standard, I decided to do a short (relatively speaking) post on the history and workings of video codecs, and what it means for the future of the web.
A Brief History of Video Codecs
Digital video, stored in a raw RGB format taken straight from the camera is prohibitively massive. This is because we encode and preserve each pixel of data in each frame in its entirety thus creating a perfect copy of the original input. To put this in context, your average 2 hour flick at 1080p quality in an uncompressed RGB format could run upwards of 600 GB.
So I've decided to share a new 10 track playlist every Monday that's handpicked from my collection. This week's genre is Full On Psytrance, enjoy the beats. If you have any genre request for the next playlist, leave them in the comments below.
This is a short list of some phenomenal albums released over the last few decades that never made it to mainstream status. The albums span a broad range of genres including metal, electronica, rock, psytrance and hiphop, so there's something here to cater to everyone's tastes.
